School Profile
The Golden Door Charter School was founded in 1998 as one of Jersey City's first charter schools. Located at 180 Ninth Street, our state of the art building serves as a wonderful learning environment to roughly 500 students in grades kindergarten through eight. A highly qualified certified teaching and support staff instructs our students. The Golden Door Charter School benefits from a highly skilled and experienced leadership team, comprised of the following members:

Facility
The school is located in a three-story building, built specifically as an elementary school. The location is leased from the city of Jersey City.

Number of Students, Grades, and Classes
The school's charter authorizes a maximum enrollment of 504 students in grades Kindergarten, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.

Maximum Class Size
24 students per class

School Day
Students arrive for breakfast at 7:35 am. The school day begins at 8:00 am and concludes at 3:30 pm for at total time of seven hours and 55 minutes. Total instructional time is six hours and 30 minutes.

School Year
The school year began on September 7 and ended June 30 for a total of 190 days with five snow days that can be used.

Employees
The school employs a lead person, seven office staff/administrators, a school nurse, a Network Administrator, a mathematics coach, a language arts literacy coach, six humanities and technology teachers, two basic skills teachers, one ESL/basic skills teacher, four teachers of the handicapped, a special education coordinator, a part-time child study team consisting of a psychologist, LDTC, and a case worker, a full time speech/language pathologist, a school counselor, 24 classroom teachers, 7 instructional assistants, one janitor, two security guards, three kitchen staff and seven evening custodial staff.

Defining Attributes
The defining attributes of the school are its emphasis on early literacy and mathematics based on the latest researched-based techniques and strategies, specific behavior models (one for elementary and one for middle grades) and character education, technology, music, art, Spanish, physical education, and health.
